Meet Humanoid Robot Boxing

Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots has entered the 21st Century.

Robot manufacturer Unitree recently promised to livestream a boxing match between two of its robots in the near future, in what some reports have called the first event of its kind.

The event, Unitree Iron Fist King: Awakening! will take place “in about a month,” the Chinese company said in a brief April 10 post on X. “Let’s step into a new era of Sci-Fi, join the fun together!” the post says, asking everyone to “stay tuned!” Besides #Boxing, hashtags in the post include #Fighting and #Game, so the exact form of combat remains to be seen.

In the first half of a promotional video accompanying the post, Unitree’s G1 robot and a human, both in gloves and training headgear, spar with one another. The 4.3-foot robot is little match for its opponent, as it is easily shoved to the ground and rises with what can only be described as a dazed look.
